KLP creates a Symphony

Australian radio host, producer, and vocalist, KLP has released her new single ‘Symphony’. The new track comes directly from KLP’s highly anticipated EP which is due for release in June. In further support of the new music, KLP has also announced the dates for her tour which will see KLP travel around the country this Autumn. We caught up with KLP to ask her about ‘Symphony’, the tour and her attendance at the APRA Song Hubs writing camp in Amsterdam.

Firstly KLP, Congratulations on the release of your brand new single 'Symphony'. Tell us about the new track, what was the inspiration for writing this one?

It’s all about the feeling that you’re running out of time to get all of the things you want to do done. Whether that's just on a certain day and you wish you had a few more hours, or bigger picture, the feeling that you wish you were getting more done in life.

It’s an exciting space to have so many people around to bounce ideas off.

You worked with mates Loods and Dave Winnel on this song, is it handy having such talented mates you can reach out to for advice or help?

Absolutely. I have a bunch of people that I regularly collaborate with. They’re either jumping in to help on my tracks or vice versa, me helping them. It’s an exciting space to have so many people around to bounce ideas off.

This is our first taste of your forthcoming EP 'Alter' which is due out in June, what was it about this track that made you select it as the teaser of what's to come?

It was finished first! Ha! That’s the honest answer as I’ve had this track for the longest so it just felt right that it was the first one to be released.

What can fans expect from the new release?

High and positive energy.

I do feel there is a common thread with the songs I play in my sets - they’re all largely based around fun vocals and hooks.

You're headed around the country to showcase the new EP for fans, what does a KLP live show look like?

As above, lots of energy! And I do feel there is a common thread with the songs I play in my sets - they’re all largely based around fun vocals and hooks.

KLP you are not just an artist, you are also an acclaimed Radio Host, Producer and Writer. Which of these roles do you find the most challenging and the most rewarding?

I wish it was as simple as naming one - but they all fill little parts of me creatively so I really love being able to flick between them all from time to time.

You have worked with a who's who of Electronic Music including Sonny Fodera, Marten Hoger, Skrillex, What So Not and Peking Duk. What has been your biggest pinch yourself moment?

Definitely getting in the studio with Skrillex. He texted me one day out of the blue saying “Hey its Sonny” and I had no idea if it was real or if I was being pranked. Turns out it was real :)

Who is still on your wish list to collaborate with?

Chris Lake. Mark Knight. The Blessed Madonna.

I’m so proud to say that my takeaway was that Australia produces some fucking incredible talent -
— KLP

For those that don't know you were recently chosen by Global giant Mall Grab to participate in the APRA Song Hubs writing camp in Amsterdam, which saw you working with esteemed artists such as Kettama, Flanise and David Jackson. What was that like and what did you take away from the experience?

I’m so proud to say that my takeaway was that Australia produces some fucking incredible talent - and a lot of them just so happen to be female. Brux and Ninajirachi absolutely smashed every single track they worked on and I think it really blew some of the other producers away how fast and versatile they are.

Who in your crew or team deserves a shout-out but never gets one? And what is it they do that keeps your world turning?

Love this. I work with a guy called Lachie - he is my logistics and accounts wizard. He’s so onto it and it's an absolute pleasure working with him every week.

What's next for KLP? What's in the pipeline for the rest of 2024?

Get this EP out! Play lots of shows. Make more music. Repeat!
